About Mike Hatz
“Grassroots Writer, Artist, Musician, Renaissance Man” (who does NOT write about himself in the third person!) – I like hiking, fishing, camping, reading, and just creating whatever comes out of my mind. I believe in self-reliance, personal freedom, personal responsibility, and that the individual is the most persecuted minority on the planet.
Born in Riverside, New Jersey in 1968 (right outside Philly), moved to Tennessee in 1982. Dropped out of school after a near-death experience at 16, got my GED (Good Enough Diploma), left home and went to work. I would eventually get my real High School Diploma right before joining the Navy in 1990.
After my discharge in 1992, I met my wife Luchrisa and married her in 1993. After eight years living in Powell, we moved to Knoxville in 2001, where I worked several day-jobs while furthering my crafts of music, art, and writing at night.
Art is my oldest passion (I have been drawing and painting since preschool). I draw in pencil, charcoal, and pen and ink, as well as create watercolor paintings (under both Mike Hatz and Justice Lives Not). I take digital photographs and make digital video, also, and can do everything from design book jackets, CD jewel boxes, and tutorials and music videos.
I write mostly for Associated Content (AC), and am regularly featured in Donald Pennington’s literary e-circular “Talent Showcase”. I have also had dozens of published editorials in the News-Sentinel and several online news sites under my legal name.
I soon hope to be in a position to start freelance writing as well. My most recent literary endeavor was editing the Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel “Malhjin Chronicles – Book One: The Beast from Beyond” by Brom Wolfkin (under the pseudonym Julius Hatz).

As a musician I have performed live with Scream Again(1989-1990), Monday’s Child (1994-1998), Seventh Groove (1998-2000), Remedy (2000-2001), Dipstik (2001-2004) and Idiom (2004-2006), playing bass guitar. I have released several albums of self-produced albums under the name Justice Lives Not, where I wrote all the music and play all the instruments.
I play the guitar, bass guitar, and drums, and am currently learning keyboards, mandolin, and the mountain dulcimer. Many of the projects I have been involved in have had radio airplay on local stations. This year, I hope to record some new original music; a mix of metal, punk, southern rock, and folk (as is my usual flavor).
I’ve been all over the country and half way around the world, and have easily met thousands of people, having lived, worked, loved, hated, fought, laughed, cried, thought, talked, drawn, jammed, played, and prayed with souls of just about every age, race, religion, nationality, social standing, and economic level conceivable in my short time on Earth.
It is from these experiences that I draw my material, for even in my fictitious works, my art imitates my life and the lessons I learned from it. Thanks for stopping by, and it’s a pleasure to meet you…
